You may have noticed our website looks different. You may have noticed it’s better. Maybe you hadn’t. In any case, we figured it was as good a time as any to tell you a little more about why we’ve updated our site, what’s new and awesome and more importantly – what’s coming.
First, throwback to 2017, when some bright spark on our team suggested we might need a website to go with the insurance product we had been building - smart chap he was. What ensued was a blur of frantic activity, design reviews, some compromise and a whole lot of elbow grease.
When we launched Sanlam Indie we wanted everyone to know that we were bringing a revolution in the punk rock, hip hop “stick it to the man” kind of way. We wanted to be edgy and loud mouthed.
But in the months after we launched we realised that, actually, we just wanted to be warm, helpful and enlightening. We think it’s possible to lead a revolution, and be the nice guy. Our new style more accurately reflects our DNA – Sanlam Indie is here to help you on a journey to creating wealth and our branding communicates that more clearly and honestly.
Also we’ve grown up a lot as a company and as a team. We’re 5 times bigger today than when we launched the site. We’ve got research, education, marketing and sales teams and we’ve got some big ideas about what the future of insurance looks like for South Africa.
The new website marks our first steps towards making it happen, with a more robust architecture, design system and a whole bunch of nerdy stuff to help us scale with our ambitions.
Here to help. No, really.
Our research painted a grim picture of the insurance industry in South Africa - where the financial ignorance of the majority of our citizenry is used against them by many incumbents, who are happy to sell poor quality products while keeping South Africans in the dark.
Our response to this is two fold - today we’re officially launching Sanlam Indie Learn where we aim to add a number of courses to give anyone access to simple to understand quality content.
Secondly, we’ve invested significant time vastly improving the quality of our product documentation on our various Sanlam Indie product pages. And we’ve also created a new help centre that lays out everything you could possibly want to know about Sanlam Indie products.
It’s not a launch, it’s just launch-ish.
We’re proud of our new direction, but we are way more excited about the stuff coming to Sanlam Indie (and the Sanlam Indie site) during the course of the next few weeks and months.
