Submit a claim
We know that claiming for a benefit can be a stressful and emotional time. Our process is quick and simple to give you peace of mind.
SUBMIT A CLAIM
Submit your claim with all the required documents to claims@sanlamindie.co.za.
To submit a valid claim, please ensure:
You are either a policyholder or a listed beneficiary on the main policyholder’s Sanlam Indie Funeral Cover policy
All waiting periods are completed (6 months for natural death, 12 months for suicide)
To prevent any delays in assessing your claim, please send us the following:
Completed claim form
Certified proof of identity for the claimant (certified copy of ID or certified copy of birth certificate or certified copy of passport)
Certified proof of identity for the deceased (certified copy of ID or certified copy of birth certificate or certified copy of passport)
Proof of bank account into which the claim will be paid (stamped bank statement or cancelled cheque or salary advice)
Certified copy of death certificate of the deceased
Fully completed police report if the cause of death is unnatural, accidental, or suicide
Copy of BI-1663, DHA-1663 or BI-1680 documents
We aim to pay out Funeral Cover within 48 hours of receiving all your documents. Payouts for other benefits can take up to 3 weeks.

Frequently asked questions
As long as you don’t claim for something that happens in any of the excluded countries, we’ll cover you (the policyholder) outside of South Africa.
It’s up to you to tell your loved ones that they’re beneficiaries on your Sanlam Indie policy. Keep your policy schedule somewhere safe where your family can easily find it after your death.
We won’t pay a claim if someone dies from natural causes within 6 months or commits suicide within 12 months of taking out an active policy.
For Funeral Cover, if you die before you turn 70, any unlocked Sanlam Indie Wealth Bonus will be paid out to your beneficiaries. It’s a little different for life insurance benefits.
